NO 3 DISTRICT LOYAL ORANGE LODGE
Prior to 1834 County Donegal Grand Orange Lodge consisted of 4 Districts:
NO. 1 District Lifford had 9 Lodges NO. 2 District Ballintra had 11 Lodges NO. 3 District Donegal had 2 Lodges NO. 4 District lnnishowen had 1 Lodge. In 1834 the City of Londonderry District Lodge was granted the same privileges as the City of Dublin and as such was entitled to form a Grand Lodge. It was in that year that Lifford No. 1 District transferred to the City of Londonderry Grand Lodge becoming Raphoe No. 3 District.
The new Raphoe District L.O.L. No. 3 comprised the following Lodges in 1834:
L.O.L. No. 334 meeting in Lifford with Bro. Wm McIntosh as WM.
L.O.L. No. 346 meeting in Manorcunningham with Bro. James B. Marshall as WM.
L.O.L. No.774 meeting in Raphoe with Bro. John Lowry as WM.
L.O.L. No. 992 meeting in St. Johnston with Bro. Alexander Porter as WM.
L.O.L. No. 1007 meeting in Castlefin with Bro. Andrew Gamble as WM.
L.O.L. No. 1319 meeting in Stranoriar with Bro. James Greer as WM.
L.O.L. No. 1441 meeting in Manorcunningham with Bro. John Davis as WM.
L.O.L. No. 1449 meeting in Carrigans with Bro. John Millar as WM.
It is interesting to note that St. Johnston L.O.L. 992 has retained the same Warrant. The 774 number later was transferred to Castlefin. In 1936 L.O.L. 1005 Convoy's number was operating in Carlow, L.O.L. 1063 Newtowncunningham's number was in Bandon, Co. Cork; L.O.L. 1 117 Manorcunningham's number was dormant in Co. Antrim.
