HOPE OF EGLINTON LOL 764
Eglinton L.O.L. 764 was formed in May 1906 with special permission being given to Bro. Ballard, City Grand Secretary from the County Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge, meeting in Portstewart.
Eglinton at that time was considered to come under the jurisdiction of the County Grand Lodge. Wor. Bro. James McConnell was the first Worshipful Master and served in this position for 25 years until elected W.D.M. of the City of Londonderry L.O.L. No. 5 District. The Lodge held its meetings for the first few years at the home of the W.M. at Tully, Eglinton. On the 12th July 1906, the Lodge and band went to Donegal Town for their first Demonstration. They formed up at Bro. J. McConnell's Barn (Lodge Room), and walked to Londonderry in the early hours of the morning. They then boarded the train at Victoria Road Station and upon there return to Londonderry they paraded the City and then walked back to Eglinton, where they got tea and had a barn dance and returned home in the wee small hours of the morning.
In 1910 the Lodge moved to Wilisboro' Schoolhouse, also where the local Masonic Lodge also met. The Scott family granted these premises kindly.
