CARRIGANS L.O.L 1897


Warrant No. 1897 was issued to a Bro. James W Beath on 28th August 1866 and the Lodge met at Molenan. The Lodge then moved to a hall in Carrigans Main Street, opposite the local Parish Church. This hall is now a neatly decorated cottage. In 1891 the W.M. of Carrigans Lodge was a Bro.Robert McClelland. In 1921 the Lodge moved to Carrigans Memorial Hall, situated off Main Street, locally known as the Back Street. Carrigans Memorial Hall was destroyed by fire in an arson attack carried out by Republicans on Wednesday morning 8th September 1971, resulting in the loss of Warrant, regalia. Lodge furniture and banner. Pipes and drums and uniforms belonging to Carrigans Pipe Band were also destroyed.

The warrant was renewed in 1972 to Bro. Thomas Bradley.

The Lodge met in St. Johnston Orange Hall for a year and then decided to move to the Victoria Orange Hall in Spencer Road Londonderry, where they remained until October 1992, when due to the sale of the Victoria Hall, they moved to their present meeting place, the Canon Kelly Hall, Glendermott, by kind permission of the Select Vestry of Glendermott Parish Church.

In 1906 the Lodge had a Membership of 99 moving up to a top membership of 144 in 1921. Over the past number of years the membership has declined and the present membership is 16
