CITY OF TEMPERANCE LOL 1007
The warrant for the City of Londonderry Temperance L.O.L. 1007 was issued on June 6th 1872. The minutes for December 1881 reveal that the Lodge was re-opened on that date at 46, Clooney Terrace, Waterside, Londonderry. No record is available as to why meetings previous to this date had been postponed or cancelled. The venue for future meetings was at the above address until June 1882; from then until March 1993 the monthly meetings were held in the Victoria Hall Waterside. After the Sale of the Victoria Orange Hall we met in the Apprentice Boys Memorial but on in 1996 along with the Sir Knights of Foyle Defenders Royal Black Perceptory No. 237 opened a new Orange Hall on Bonds Street in Londonderry. We meet on the last Wednesday of each month. In early years of it formation L.O.L. 1007 was attached to No.4 District until the formation of No.5 District in 1926 of which we are now members. In the late eighteen eighties and early nineties the membership was 180 to 250 Brethren. During the two World Wars a numbers of the Brethren served in the armed forces and thankfully all returned safely from active service. Over the years many of the members have been preceded or succeeded by family relations it is of interest to note that the McNeill family has to it's credit four generations all of which have held prominent office. Since the formation of the Lodge several Banners have been purchased the most recent was unfurled and dedicated on the 1st July 1991. Ten of our current members are Past Masters and three are holders of long service medals being initiated in the 1930's namely Bros. J. Campbell, A. Corbett and H. Smy.
